PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today said there was a need to relook the recovery movement-control order (RMCO), for areas seeing a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, such as Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor and Perak.

In a special daily National Security Council meeting on Covid-19 today, Muhyiddin said they discussed the RMCO, which is set to end next month, but the current situation remains unchanged, with some places imposed with a conditional MCO.

“The meeting also took note of the challenges in holding the Batu Sapi by-election on December 5, as well as the Sarawak elections, during a Covid-19 pandemic that has yet to abate,” he said in a statement on his Facebook tonight.

The prime minister said he was worried over the rise in cases in areas in Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak and Johor that went from green zones to yellow or red zones, even when mitigating actions and interventions have been escalated.

On Dewan Rakyat proceedings, the Pagoh MP said while the current session just began with the standard operating procedure in place, there have been several Covid-19 cases involving various personnel in Parliament.

“On the back of those cases, lawmakers are worried as the Parliament building itself is located in a red zone, and there is a lot of movement involving the MPs, their officers as well as Parliament staff.

“I believe Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun can use his wisdom in managing this matter,” he said.

The country reported 12 Covid-19 deaths, the highest number in a single day since the pandemic began.

The last time the country reported double-digit deaths was on October 23, when 10 people died from the coronavirus.

The number of daily cases hit four digits for the second time with 1,054 new infections detected in the last 24 hours, pushing the total to 34,393. – Bernama, November 3, 2020.
