THE Health Ministry will suggest that Covid-19 screening be carried out every two weeks for those in Parliament.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said he will convey this proposal to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun for the current sitting that began yesterday and lasts until December 15.

“I will present it to Parliament. I will discuss with the speaker and perhaps they will consider the suggestion,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Covid-19 screening is done three days prior to the start of the current meeting, he added.

“But, during the six-week period, MPs and Parliament staff will still be exposed (to the virus).”

He said three are positive cases in Parliament – a sign language interpreter, auxiliary police and a senator’s assistant.

“Those in close contact have been quarantined and screening is being done.

“We want to advise the MPs to follow the standard operating procedure in and out of Parliament for the next six weeks to prevent infections.”

Noor Hisham said they will carry out risk assessment from time to time to prevent infections in the House. – November 3, 2020.
