THE government will redevelop 200 acres of Kg Baru, Kuala Lumpur, by breaking it up into 40 parcels, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa in Parliament today.

“The government is committed to redeveloping Kg Baru and it will be done organically,” he said, adding that the government decided to go ahead with the development as 61% of property owners in the district had replied positively to the government’s plan to acquire the land to be redeveloped.

Annuar was responding to a question from Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun) on the status of negotiations for the Malay reserve land.

“On the government’s part, we will get RM1.5 billion to develop the infrastructure in the area.”

However, former Federal Territories minister Khalid Samad (PH-Shah Alam) questioned the rationale behind the move.

“What is the masterplan for this redevelopment if the government is going to break 200 acres down to 40 parcels? Assuming each developer only gets five acres, what can they do organically?” asked the Amanah leader.

He added that the previous Pakatan Harapan government had also planned a 25-acre park for Kg Baru.

However, Annuar said five acres was sufficient for developers.

“Land is so scarce in that area, that there would be takers even if it was just one acre,” said the Ketereh MP. – November 3, 2020.
