PUTRAJAYA will meet with the Malindo Air management to resolve its retrenchment issues, said Human Resources Minister M. Saravanan.
“We will be holding discussions with Malindo Air together with Socso and the Industrial Relations Department (IRD) to talk about legal processes and staff welfare,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
“Until November 2, there have been 31 complaints of unfair dismissal filed with the IRD and 24 have been resolved through negotiations, with seven still outstanding.
“We expect more cases as the workers have 60 days to file their complaints,” said the Tapah MP.
Saravanan was responding to P. Kasthuriraani’s (Batu Kawan Pakatan Harapan) question in Dewan Rakyat on how the government was helping Malindo Air staff who were retrenched last week.
The Malaysian Insight reported that a three-month salary package is among the severance payout for some 2,000 Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd employees whose stint ended yesterday in a retrenchment exercise as Covid-19 has taken a major hit on the airline’s revenue.
The company’s retrenchment policy and guidelines sighted by The Malaysian Insight revealed that the retrenchment package will be paid out in instalments.
Affected by the Covid-19 lockdowns, Malindo Air was said to have trimmed its workforce from 3,200 to 1,000 staff. All affected employees are expected to complete their employment by November 30. – November 3, 2020.
