PUTRAJAYA will lift the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Alor Star prison tomorrow after no Covid-19 cases were recorded, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“The Health Ministry has completed screening and has found no more cases in the prison.
“The government agreed to end the EMCO tomorrow,” said Ismail Sabri.
The Alor Setar prison was first placed under the EMCO on October 5 until October 18, and then extended for another 14 days until November 1.
The lockdown was put in place following a hike in the number of Covid-19 cases from the prison that has become to be known as the Tembok cluster.
It was previously reported that a total of 225 Covid-19 cases had come from the Tembok cluster.
Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said infections in this cluster spread inside the prison centre in Kota Setar and claimed the live of a prison staff member last month.
On the source of the infection, Dr Noor Hisham said it was likely the index patient had brought the virus into the facility. β November 1, 2020.
