Politicians, God is watching you

A LINE in the lyrics of the song, God is watching you, says “When you always have to win, God is watching you”. We are also watching you but this is of no concern because later when you throw goodies, many will still vote you in.

For many years now, have you not been tired of politicking? We are now the “exhausted majority” by just looking at your antics. There are so many critical issues that need your attention but you are too busy politicking.

Don’t you feel the physical, emotional and psychological toll and the effect on the rakyat?

On social media and some gatherings, tempers flare and friendships are lost. Social media users who have not met each other are hurling abuses at each other. You will trade barbs in Parliament but in a jiffy you can switch sides, but we lose friends.

Many are jobless and the economy is wanting. It is good that you are assisting via various subsidies, but for how long? And do we have enough reserves for other rainy days and future generations? Is this the example we want to show to them?

Every day we are told to be aware of new norms but your politics are not new? You want to win at all costs and the winner takes all. There are also who wants to be the numero uno and still hoping, given a second chance and wants another and signing statutory declarations which negates the power of the ballot box.

We are adults and we voted you in. We now feel that we are just kids looking at you, our “father”, doing what you like and our views and voices are irrelevant.

Remember the weeks before May 9, 2018 when you were deprived of sleep just to meet us and ask about our problems and promised development? Thereafter, we can’t even see you and you even skip parliamentary sessions. For some, the manifesto is not a promise.

We hear about developments in every general and by-elections for the last six decades but we are still not fully developed. Do you think it is still a good tool to use to get votes? South Korea has left us far behind and China, not a democracy, has raised a few hundred million people out of poverty.

Were there equal and sustained developments at Veveonah Mosibin’s village? And some used her for political mileage!

We need dependable representatives who are accountable and have our interests at heart and not interests of your “group”. Only then democracy can flourish.

You have made a mockery of democracy. The essence of the democratic system is an empty place, void of real people which can only be temporarily filled. The seat of power is there but remains open to constant change. You can easily be replaced too.

To add, your ego is supreme. Parties have said that they cannot accept one party to be in the government. In the same breath you talk about unity in a multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religion society. I hope you do understand what unity is all about.

On this special day of Maulidur Rasul, please try to emulate Prophet Muhammed SAW. He laid the basic guidelines through the “Charter of Madinah” on how Muslims should deal with non-Muslims. Minority rights granted through pledges, documents and mutual agreements succeeded in creating a healthy atmosphere for both spiritual and material growth.

This effectively abolishes religious and social inequality. The universality of the Islamic creed was meant for the totality of human beings and it necessitates fair treatment.

What say you? – October 29, 2020.
