Number of Covid-19 active cases tops 10,000, 8 deaths reported

THE number of people being treated for Covid-19 in the country breached the 10,000 mark for the first time after 801 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Out of the 10,123 active cases, 94 patients are in intensive care, with 25 of them requiring breathing assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said the cumulative cases in the country currently stands at 29,441, while the number of fatalities has risen to 246.

Sabah once again recorded the highest daily figure, with 546 cases, or 68.2%, of today’s total, followed by Selangor (89 cases) and Labuan (29).

The Klang Valley reported 103 cases, or 12.8%, of the total recorded today.

Malaysia also has reported eight fatalities – seven in Sabah and one in Selangor.

The youngest victim was a 35-year-old woman and the oldest was a woman aged 73. Both were from Sabah.

Malaysia also recorded 573 recoveries, with the highest number coming from Sabah (294), followed by Selangor and Kedah, at 116 each. – October 28, 2020.
