SG Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu has been released on police bail after having his statement recorded over an allegedly seditious Facebook post.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (investigation/legal) Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed Liu’s release when contacted.

Liu was arrested this morning upon arrival at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters in connection with a Facebook post about protests in Thailand against the country’s monarchy.

Liu is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Media quoted Liu’s lawyer Jadavish Chandra as saying his client was at the police station for questioning when officers from the federal police headquarters decided to arrest him.

Liu’s post allegedly compared the Thai protests with Malaysia’s situation, prompting police reports to be lodged against him.

Yesterday, Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said Liu had uploaded pictures of protesters in Bangkok, Thailand.

The accompanying caption read: “Now in Bangkok. They are saying no to the king”.

Aside from Liu, police are also investigating three other people on suspicion of insulting the king on social media. – October 28, 2020.

  • When the PDRM is able to produce Indira Gandhi's daughter (and not hope for a happy ending - for whom?), and execute the law without fear or favor, they might be able to rescue themselves from their zero credibility status right now.

The arrest of Ronnie Liu hammers yet another nail in the coffin of credibility for the PDRM. No investigation, yet an arrest? But for Azmin, they claim an inability to recognise him in the infamous video, and for the PAS Minister who breached the MCO, it is a blatant display of double standards, with no arrest, a wayang of investigations, and a shameful conclusion.

When is the IGP going to resign?
