SELANGOR will supply food for prison staff in all four facilities in the state during the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) period, said Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari

“We hope the food given on a daily basis will ease the burden of the staff,” he said today after attending an event in Shah Alam.

The four prisons in Selangor – Kajang Women’s Prison, Kajang Prison, Sg Buloh Prison and Puncak Alam Prison, and their respective staff quarters have been placed under the EMCO following a rise in Covid-19 cases in these facilities.

The EMCO runs from October 23 to November 4.

Similarly, five prisons in the northern region are also placed under the EMCO.

The five are the Perlis correctional centre, Sg Petani prison, Taiping prison, Kamunting correctional centre and Tapah prison, and their respective staff quarters.

During this period, no visitors are allowed to visit the prisoners.

Selangor and Federal Territory prisons director Sakeri Dollah, meanwhile, said all new inmates in Selangor will be segregated into a special quarantine centre prior to being placed in prisons to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“It is also compulsory for prison officers to wear masks while on duty and they also have to scan at the entrance on a daily basis before entering the premises,” he said.

Selangor recorded 125 new Covid-19 cases yesterday. – October 28, 2020.
