THE main suspect in an online gaming scam, who escaped from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission custody after scaling a wall, was re-arrested by police at a hilltop resort early today.

Federal CID director Huzir Mohamed said Goh Leong Yeong, who is wanted in connection with money laundering and online gambling rackets, was picked up together with a woman at the hotel outside the Klang Valley this morning.

“He was picked up at 1.20am at the hotel. He is now at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters as we apply for a remand order,” he told the Malaysian Insight.

Goh was caught 15 days after his escape from MACC custody on October 11.

“He is wanted for online gambling cases,” said Huzir.

Sources said Goh was caught in Genting Highlands and picked up during a special operation by police aimed specifically at recapturing him.

At the time of Goh’s escape, the MACC was preparing to hand over three men –another key suspect, Addy Kanna, and two police officers – to the police to assist with their investigation into a series of online gambling and Macau scam cases.

On October 12, the suspects were remanded by police for 21 days until November 3 to assist police with an online gambling case based in Cheras.

MACC chief Azam Baki said police had arrested 20 people, including eight police officers and a Chinese national as part of this investigation.

He said the MACC had also frozen more than 730 bank accounts containing RM101 million and seized RM5 million cash.

In addition to this, he said, the authorities had seized 23 luxury vehicles and motorcycles believed to have been purchased with the proceeds of the operation. – October 27, 2020.
