PEOPLE should avoid holding mass gatherings when the conditional movement control order (CMCO) is in force, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said such gatherings could contribute to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Noor Hisham said those who know of such gatherings should report the matter to the police for them to take action under The Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

“We already mention avoiding crowded places, confined places and close conversation. This is our advisory to all to comply.

“If there is any gathering or violation of this (CMCO rules), please report to the police. The enforcement of Act 342 is under the police,” he said at a press conference today in Putrajaya after he was asked about Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs meeting today at the Putra World Trade Centre.

BN lawmakers met today to decide if the coalition will stick with Perikatan Nasional (PN) or abandon the ruling coalition amid talk that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is resigning.

The meeting at the Umno headquarters began at 12.30pm.

Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin, when met at the lobby of the PWTC, said the meeting was a briefing to discuss events in the last 24 hours.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the principle of the CMCO is to stay at home for the purpose of breaking the chain of infection.

Malaysia today recorded its highest number of daily cases with 1,240 infections.

Sabah accounted for the bulk of new cases, with the state recording 927 or 74.8% of today’s cases.

Sabah has now recorded the highest daily Covid-19 cases for 20 consecutive days, with the caseload in the state since the onset of the pandemic now standing at 12,745. – October 26, 2020.
