THE Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has arrived at the Istana Negara to chair the Conference of Rulers meeting to discuss Putrajaya’s purported plan to impose emergency to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 2.30pm.

The Malaysian Insight learnt that Johor ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, arrived not too long after the king arrived from Istana Pahang in Pekan.

At 2.20pm, it was learnt that all state rulers had entered the main entrance of the National Palace and palace officials had closed the gates.

About 20 police personnel are currently on guard outside the palace.

Earlier today, two civic groups who were against Muhyiddin’s motion to call for an emergency submitted a memorandum to the agong.

The two groups later dispersed peacefully after handing over the letter to king’s representative.

On Friday, after a special cabinet meeting, Muhyiddin presented the agong with the government’s proposal for an emergency, purportedly to address the deepening Covid-19 crisis that has plagued the country.

However, he is also due to face a potential vote of no confidence when Parliament convenes on November 2. Budget 2021 is set to be tabled later in the week on November 6.

Critics charge the prime minister with wanting to avoid such a scenario and hold on to power by calling an emergency, which would see Parliament suspended. – October 25, 2020.

  • Usually our king acts based on the advice given by the PM. It is good that our king gives the advice a second thought.
