TODAY’S record high Covid-19 case count of 1,228 was because of the large number of infections detected in Sabah’s Kepayan Prison, said the Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said 434 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the prison.

“If we look at the community outside, the infections are about the same figures as yesterday.

“The infections at Kepayan had increased the cases today,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said that there are about 2,000 prisoners in the facility.

“If there are infections, for example in the Tembok prison or others, there will be an increase in cases.

“The increase is not in the community but in prisons.”

Noor Hisham said that they are looking into the standard operating procedure in the prisons.

“We have identified some prisons in the North and Selangor.

“We have to avoid these infections in the community.”

He said that prison officers and prisoners who are brought out of the faciity can infect the community or those in lock-up.

“This has happened in Tawau prison. We are working with the prisons and have SOP to prevent infections.” – October 25, 2020.

  • Most of the infections are in prisons and in Sabah is a fact. Why them the need for a Nationwide emergency?

  • The King should be made aware of this fact and not burden the entire nation with an damaging and unnecessary emergency. Whether Malaysia survives a fatal economic and political onslaught depends on the wise decision of our YDP Agong.
