Six new Covid-19 clusters detected, says health D-G

SIX new clusters of Covid-19 infections have been identified in the last 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said the six clusters were located in Sabah; Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya; Gombak in Selangor; Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur; Sarawak and Johor.

Noor Hisham said 122 cases have been reported in the six new clusters, with the Kaya cluster in Negri Sembilan and Putrajaya contributing the highest number with 55 cases.

Sixty-three people have been screened in this cluster, with 55 reporting positive results, six negative and two awaiting results.

The Mesra cluster in Sandakan, Sabah, saw 116 people being screened, with 22 of them reporting positive, two negative and 92 awaiting results.

The Megah cluster, also in Sandakan, saw 64 people being screened, with 15 reporting positive, 12 negative and 37 awaiting results.

The Bah Kayu cluster in Gombak and Titiwangsa saw a total of 628 people being screened, with 17 reporting positive, 591 negative and 20 awaiting results.

The Baki cluster in Kuching, involves 68 people who have been screened, with five reporting positive, 34 negative and 29 awaiting results.

The Kempas cluster in Johor Baru and Kulai in Johor saw  206 people who have been screened, with eight reporting positive, 28 negative and 170 awaiting results.

Malaysia today reported a record number of daily Covid-19 cases at 1,228.

This grim national milestone is reflected in Sabah, which reported an all-time high of 889 cases.

The Bornean state has been the epicentre of Malaysia’s third wave of Covid-19 infections, consistently topping national case tallies in the past several weeks. – October 24, 2020.
