NO drugs have yet to be found to cure the Covid-19 infection despite many claiming to be able to treat the infectious virus, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said that there are no effective drugs including hydroxychloroquine, remdesivir, and the HIV/AIDS drug lopinavir, or ritonavir, normally marketed as Kaletra.

“No drug has been identified that can cure Covid-19. If they want to take vitamins and so on, that should not be a problem but the cure for Covid-19 is yet to be found.

“If there are (drugs), it means they (people who are selling) they must be rich by now,” he said at a press conference today after he was asked about medicines and drugs claiming to treat and prevent Covid-19 sold on social media.

Noor Hisham said that the drug dexamethasone is currently used to treat Covid-19 patients.

He added that the  world is currently trying to find an effective cure for the highly infectious disease.

Malaysia today recorded 847 new Covid-19 cases and five deaths, taking the death tally past the 200 mark.  – October 22, 2020.
