TWELVE schools nationwide were closed due to Covid-19 infections from local clusters since the start of the third wave on September 20, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said these schools were either located in the red zone, had cases of infection from family members or reported to have sporadic cases.

“Three schools closed in Negri Sembilan were related to the Cahaya, Sofi and Bah Manggis clusters.

“Three schools closed in Johor were related to the Simera and Rinting clusters, and two schools in Kuala Lumpur linked to the Jalan Pantai and Long clusters.

“One school in Penang circled back to the Alma cluster, one in Malacca to the Bukit cluster, one in Putrajaya to the Selasih cluster and finally one school in Sarawak to the Bah Arnab cluster,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham said the cases did not mean the cause of infection was at the schools, but probably brought there by those in the named clusters or family members who were infected or sporadic infections.

He however did not specify when the schools were closed, but said when a case is reported in schools, it would be closed for one week for disinfection and contact tracing. – October 22, 2020.
