The senior minister said the decision was made after assessing the Covid-19 situation in the correctional institutions.

“Before this, the government has placed Alor Setar prison, Pokok Sena prison, Penang remand prison and Seberang Perai prison under EMCO.

“Today, the Home Ministry had briefed the National Security Council about the situation at several prisons in the northern region and in Selangor. There are five prisons in the north zone and four in Selangor.

“The five are the Perlis correctional centre, Sg Petani prison, Taiping prison, Kamunting correctional centre and Tapah prison, while in Selangor, they are the Sg Buloh remand prison, Kajang prison, Kajang Women’s prison and Puncak Alam Correctional centre.

“Following the assessment, we agreed to impose EMCO in all nine institutions from October 23 to November 4,” Ismail Sabri said during his press conference today.
