Eight new Covid-19 clusters, 93 active

Eight new Covid-19 clusters have been reported in the past 24 hours, taking the number of active clusters to 93. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Seth Akmal, October 21, 2020.

NINETY-THREE Covid-19 clusters in the nation are still active, with 28 of them reporting new cases in the past 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said another eight clusters have been reported as of noon today, taking Malaysia’s total number of virus clusters since the start of the pandemic to 201, with 105 no longer active.

The eight clusters reported today are Basung, Inai, Tempayan, Long, Cahaya, Bah Kota, Melati and Bina Labuan.

Three of the clusters were reported in Sabah, with two coming from the Kudat district.

Noor Hisham said the first cluster in Kudat was the Basung cluster.

This cluster has thus far reported 19 cases from a total of 174 screened.

Seven are still awaiting test results while 148 have tested negative.

The second cluster in Kudat is the Inai cluster.

A total of 92 people were screened here, with eight testing positive and 84 waiting for results.

The Tempayan cluster involved the Kota Kinabalu and Penampang districts in Sabah.

Out of 21 people screened in this cluster, 19 have tested positive, while one has tested negative and another person is waiting for results.

The Long cluster involved the Hulu Langat district in Selangor and several other districts in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 301 individuals have been screened and 19 have tested positive, followed by 260 negative results while the remaining 23 are pending.

The Cahaya cluster involved two districts, one in Petaling, Selangor and the other in Tampin, Negri Sembilan.

From 84 individuals screened in the cluster, 18 positive cases have been reported, three negative and 63 waiting for results.

The Bah Kota cluster also involved the same two states but affecting the Sepang and Seremban districts.

A total of 171 individuals have been tested with 10 positive results while the rest are still pending.

Besides this, the Melati cluster involved the Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur and Klang in Selangor.

Out of 24 screened, nine were tested positive and 15 were waiting for results.

Finally, in the Bina Labuan cluster, five individuals were tested positive for the virus from the 60 screened, while the other 55 were waiting for results.

A total of 106 cases have been recorded from these eight clusters.

After four straight days of recording more than 850 daily Covid-19 cases, Malaysia today recorded 732 new infections, taking the nation’s tally to 22,957.

Despite the slight drop in cases, Sabah still recorded the highest number of daily cases at 535 or 73.1% of today’s cases. – October 21, 2020.
