BUSINESSES that require more than two people to travel in one vehicle during the conditional movement-control order (CMCO) can only do so with the approval of the police, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail was responding to Subang MP Wong Chen’s Facebook post that a chicken rice seller in Subang Jaya was recently fined by police when he was found to be in a vehicle with two family members on the way to their stall.

“We have received advice from police and they told us those who wish to travel with more than two people in a car for work purposes must get permission or risk being summoned,” the senior minister told a press conference.

Putrajaya last week announced a two-week CMCO in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya after a surge in Covid-19 cases in the areas.

Under the partial lockdown until October 27, only two people are allowed to leave the house for the purpose of obtaining food supplies as well as other essentials.

Movement in and out across districts and states are only allowed for work and emergency purposes.

However, the public would need to show proof or seek approval from police before travelling.

Workers are allowed to cross districts and states provided they have a valid employee pass or permission letter from the employer.

For workers from within the same district, they do not need to submit any letter.

As for those who need to go through Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to other states, they are advised to obtain permission from the nearest police station before travelling.

Public transport services are running as usual.

E-hailing services including restaurant deliveries are only allowed to operate from 6am to midnight.

Only petrol stations on highways are allowed to operate 24 hours, while those in CMCO areas can only open from 6am to 10pm. – October 17, 2020.
