3 new clusters make it 181 virus hotspots in Malaysia

THREE new Covid-19 clusters detected today take the number of virus hotspots in the country to 181 since the pandemic broke out early this year, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said 77 of them were active clusters, 21 of which were reporting new cases.

The three new clusters are in Perak, Kedah and Selangor.

The Perak cluster is called Lekir and located in the Manjung district. Screenings were held for  144 people, six of whom tested positive for the coronavirus. The rest were all cleared of infection save two who are awaiting their test results.

The new cluster in Kedah, known as Buntar, originated in the Kuala Muda district and has spread to   Kerian in Perak and to Putrajaya. Fifty-one people linked to the cluster were screened. So far eight have been found to be infected with 43 awaiting their test results.

The Merbok cluster in Selangor is spread over Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and the Petaling districts. Tests were ordered for 270 people with nine testing positive and  261 waiting for their results. – October 16, 2020.
