PAKATAN Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim said he did not lie about having given to the king the names of the MPs on his side in his bid for power.

He said he did not submit to the king a list of names but rather letters and documents supporting his claim of having majority support in parliament.

“I never said (that I submitted names to the King) don’t put words in my mouth.”

“If you listen to my recording, I said I submitted letters and documents.

“For PKR, as the president, I submitted a letter stating that all 38 MPs pledge to support me as PM. I didn’t list them out,” he told reporters outside Bukit Aman this afternoon.

Anwar had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agung Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in Istana Negara  on Tuesday.

After the meeting, he told a press conference he had presented the king with documentary evidence of the majority in the house. The word “list” appeared  in his oral as well as written press statement.

The palace later issued a statement saying no list of names was presented by Anwar to the king, prompting his opponents to call the Port Dickson MP a liar.

Anwar was questioned by the police today over the names of 121 MPs said to support him in his power grab.

On when he would furnish the king with the elusive names of his backers, he said: “The matter is being sorted. For now, it is not a big concern.”

On whether PKR would follow Pejuang and Amanah in moving for a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Anwar said the party had not been discussed the idea.

“Right now there is no consultation. I am busy elsewhere.”

Today all five lawmakers in Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang each filed a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin, stating the majority of MPs have lost faith in the prime minister. – October 16, 2020.
