Six new Covid-19 clusters detected, says Noor Hisham

Six new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Malaysia in the past 24 hours, with two clusters in Kuala Lumpur alone while Sabah, Selangor, Johor and Putrajaya account for the rest. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Kamal Ariffin, October 12, 2020.

THE Health Ministry has detected six new Covid-19 clusters, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Noor Hisham said Kuala Lumpur recorded two new clusters, while Sabah, Selangor, Johor and Putrajaya recorded one each. 

The new clusters in Kuala Lumpur are the Baiduri and Bah Perdana clusters, Kolong cluster in Sabah, Bah Tropicana cluster in Selangor, Rinting cluster in Johor and finally Bah Kasturi cluster in Putrajaya.

A total of 75 positive cases have been reported from these clusters.

“Among others, the Bah Kasturi cluster in Putrajaya involves several districts and states.

“The index case for this cluster was detected as a result of screening upon returning from a high-risk area in Sabah and was admitted on September 24 to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Negri Sembilan,” Noor Hisham said in a virtual press conference. 

The Bah Kasturi cluster in Putrajaya involves Seremban, Cheras, Putrajaya, Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak and Kuala Langat.

As for the breakdown of the clusters, Noor Hisham said 305 individuals were screened in the Bah Kasturi cluster, with 18 testing positive, negative (277) and awaiting results (10). 

In the Baiduri cluster in Kuala Lumpur, 39 individuals have been screened with 18 testing positive, negative (12) and awaiting results (9). This cluster also involves two states, comprising Hulu Langat, Selangor and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur.

In Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, the Bah Perdana cluster, 22 individuals were tested with nine confirmed positive, while 13 are awaiting results. 

In the Kolong cluster in Keningau, Sabah, 92 individuals have been screened with eight testing positive, negative (81) and results pending (3). 

In the Bah Tropicana cluster in the Petaling district, 147 individuals were screened with 14 testing positive, negative (105), while 28 are awaiting results. 

Finally, in the Rinting cluster involving Malacca Tengah, Malacca and Johor Baru, Johor, 162 have undergone screening, where eight have tested positive, negative (97) and awaiting results (57). 

Noor Hisham said that Malaysia has thus far recorded 167 clusters, with 64 clusters still active. 

He said 103 clusters have come to an end. – October 12, 2020.
