FELDA Umas in Tawau, Sabah is the latest area placed under enhanced movement-control order (EMCO), said Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The senior minister in charge of the defence cluster said the decision was made after a briefing from the National Security Council on the Covid-19 situation in the state.

“We have agreed to impose EMCO in Felda Umas and the order will commence from October 13 to October 26.

“The EMCO in Felda Umas will involve 800 houses with 17,549 residents,” he said.

Previously, Semporna and Kunak were placed under EMCO.

Under the EMCO, no one is allowed to leave their homes and no one is allowed to come into the area.

“All roads leading to Felda Umas will be closed. Only those with emergencies are allowed to leave their homes.

“But they need to get permission from the police and inform them about their movement,” he added.

Ismail Sabri added that the Health Ministry will conduct targeted screening on the affected residents.

“Food supplies will be distributed by the state government and the programme will be assisted by the police and the army, supported by Rela and APM.”

Yesterday, 488 Covid-19 cases were reported in Sabah.

Ismail Sabri also announced that Sabah will be put under conditional MCO from midnight tonight to October 26.

“The NSC has also decided to impose CMCO on Sabah after seeing an increase of Covid-19 cases.

“The order will start from midnight (tonight) to October 26,” he added.

Ismail Sabri said under the CMCO, all schools, including pre-schools and higher education institutions, will be closed.

All religious and social activities, as well as sports, are prohibited during the period, he added.

“Mosques and other houses of worship are closed. Weddings and gatherings are not allowed. Sports are also prohibited during the two-week CMCO period,” he said.

He added that inter-district travel is also not allowed, except for emergency cases.

“Workers that need to travel beyond a district need a letter from their employer, and only emergency cases can travel,” he said.

Economic sectors, however, can operate, with restaurants and grocery shops allowed to open. – October 12, 2020.
