THERE has been no request from Anwar Ibrahim for MIC to be part of the PKR president’s plan to form a new government, said party secretary-general M. Asojan Muniyandy.
He also added that the party, with one MP who is also a minister in the Perikatan Nasional government, would continue to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.
“The party hasn’t received any request to be part of any plans or claims made by Anwar to form a new government.
“We stand in accordance with the decision by Barisan Nasional component leaders, especially the MPs’ support for the leadership of Muhyiddin as the prime minister of the PN government.
“As such, MIC reiterates our stance to give our undivided support to Muhyiddin as the prime minister of Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
Anwar is set to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah tomorrow to show he has the support of a majority of MPs for him to be prime minister.
Yesterday, MCA’s secretary-general Chong Sin Woon said the party will also not support Anwar.
Likewise, other PN parties such as Gabungan Parti Sarawak and PAS have steered clear of Anwar’s claims, and thrown their support behind Muhyiddin.
BN secretary-general Annuar Musa had also expressed the coalition’s support for Muhyiddin.
Only Umno has not released any official statement on their stand, with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously saying there were party MPs who were disappointed with Muhyiddin and his party Bersatu. – October 12, 2020.
