ANWAR Ibrahim is damaging his reputation by trying to form a new government amid a resurgent Covid-19 caseload, said Jeffrey Kitingan.

The Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president said the opposition leader should be mindful of public perception of his moves to topple the government in the country’s current situation.

“Anwar should be aware that in the current scenario, in the eyes of the people, he is damaging his own credibility when he portrays himself as craving to be the prime minister regardless of the consequences to the rakyat,” the Sabah politician said in a statement today as he pledged his party’s support to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional government.

He said it would be better for the Port Dickson MP to look after his constituents and help the government fight Covid-19.

He said Anwar should also focus on helping in the recovery of the economy as many people and businesses have been badly affected by this tragedy.

“Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) fully supports the Perikatan Nasional federal government and unreservedly backs Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister of Malaysia.

“I personally also fully support Muhyiddin to continue as the Prime Minister and there is no question at all of shifting support to any other candidate aspiring and dreaming to replace him as the Prime Minister.”

He is the latest from the PN to pledge loyalty to Muhyiddin as Anwar prepares to present his case to become Prime Minister tomorrow to the Yang di-Pertuan Agung.

On September 23, the Port Dickson MP held a press conference to announce he had garnered sufficient MP support to back his bid to replace Muhyiddin as prime minister.

“I have full support that is convincing from the parliamentarians, to present to the Agong. The majority support is from Malay-Muslim parliamentarians.

“With the firm majority… Muhyiddin’s government has fallen,” Anwar had said.

The PN government has at least 113 MPs in the 222-member Dewan Rakyat via Bersatu (31), PAS (18), STAR (1), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (18), Barisan Nasional (43), Parti Bersatu Sabah (1) and one independent,

Anwar, meanwhile, is supported by 91 MPs from PKR (38), DAP (42) and Amanah (11).

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang (5), Mohd Shafie Apdal’s Warisan (10, including Upko), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (2) and Muda (1) have not said who they support. – October 12, 2020.

  • Traitor. You were one of the despicable traitors trying to bring down the PH and then the Warisan govt and then further back pedaled and betrays the Kadazan people by allowing the appointment of PAS representative into the state assembly. Even if I may agree with that take, you of all people have no right to say it. Shut up you traitor
