MALAYSIA recorded 561 new Covid-19 cases and two new deaths as of noon today, with almost 90% of the cases coming from Sabah.
The two deaths were also from Sabah, meaning that 157 people have now died of the virus. This is the fourth consecutive day that all reported fatalities have come from Sabah.
In the past 24 hours, Sabah had 488 cases, followed by Selangor (26) and Kedah (16).
There were also 15 cases in Kuala Lumpur and five in Labuan, followed by Johor (3), Malacca (3), Terengganu (3), Perak (1) and Penang (1).
With 133 recoveries, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are 4,587 active cases, while giving his daily briefing on the virus.
From the 561 new cases, eight were imported cases, while 553 were local transmissions.
The two fatalities today were both at least 60 years old, one coming from Sandakan and the other from Tawau.
Both victims were males with a history of chronic illness. The 67-year-old from Sandakan suffered from tuberculosis and heart related issues, while the Tawau, victim, 63, had diabetes and high blood pressure.
The 133 recoveries reported today take the total to 10,913 or 69.7% of total cases.
Of the 4,587 active cases, 90 patients are in intensive care, 29 of whom require respiratory support.
Noor Hisham also said of the total cases recorded today, 11 cases have a travel history from Sabah.
He said that from September 20, 353 cases involved travel to and from Sabah.
Besides this, he said another 21 active clusters also recorded new cases today, including the five newly identified clusters. – October 11, 2020.
