1 UTAMA shopping centre closed today for the Health Ministry to screen staff and tenants for Covid-19, the mall said in a statement.
It said in a Facebook post that facilities have been for the tests.
“This exercise is our cautious and conservative response to mitigate any further potential risks.”
The Health Ministry has started contact-tracing and engaging with the MySejahtera team to call and broadcast details to those who had come into close contact with those tested Covid-19 at the mall.
The free screening for close contacts on October 14 and 15 is arranged by the Petaling Jaya District Health office.
“We have also reverted at speed to furnish our internal contact tracing data from 1 Utama’s Health QR and CCTV footages to assist Health Ministry to ease their investigation”
1 Utama’s management has also arranged for mall tenant staff and staff to be screened today and tomorrow.
“We had swiftly deployed teams on the floor yesterday on October 10 to register tenants.
“It has not been easy for us to close the mall literally overnight and mobilise thousands of staff for tests with the bad weather this morning, but we shall persevere to our best ability to carry this out smoothly. We sincerely apologize for any oversight and inconvenience caused.”
The mall said that the Health Ministry has confirmed that the small number of cases found in the staff are not connected and spread by one source, with the infected persons showing no symptoms during their workdays at the tenants’ outlets.
“MAC City Centre and Parkson Elites staff all tested negative for the virus.
“Customers who visited the outlets between September 25 and October 7 may contact the Health Department.”
Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the 1 Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya would also be closed for seven days from Monday to disinfect the premises and screen staff.
At least four positive Covid-19 cases have been detected at 1 Utama, involving two staff members at outlets, a mall employee and a shopper. – October 11, 2020.
