THE guidelines under the conditional movement control order (MCO) can differ according to area, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

As an example, he said that weddings can still take place in Klang – even though the area is under partial lockdown – but not Sabah, where there are more Covid-19 cases.

“The basic standard operating procedure is still the same, because it is a conditional MCO, but the guidelines can change according to the scenario,” he said.

“The conditions differ from one place to another. For example, weddings can still happen in Klang but with strict guidelines. Only 250 people can attend a wedding at one time.

“The situation in Sabah, especially along coastal areas, is much different from Klang.

“Almost every area in the east coast of Sabah are (Covid-19) red zone areas and cases are high,” he said during a Facebook livestream video.

He then added that although weddings are allowed in Klang, wedding organisers must inform the police about the ceremony before it can take place.

“This is so the police can monitor the situation. If it is possible to postpone it, then it is best to do so.

“If not, abide by the guidelines and inform the police,” he added.

However, Klang MP Charles Santiago slammed the government earlier today for allowing wedding ceremonies to take place during a conditional MCO.

He urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to follow through on his recent comment about using a rotan and take decisive action.

“Gatherings were discouraged to contain the virus… yet Ismail Sabri Yaakob says weddings with up to 500 (people are) possible.”

“Should religious groups and circus organisers ask for the same privilege?

“Has the conditional MCO become a comedy MCO? PM Muhyiddin Yassin, time to rotan?” he said on Twitter today. – October 10, 2020.

  • Allowing 250 people to gather at a wedding in a red zone or even a yellow zone is sheer stupidity. You got it, Sabri?
