SABAH parliamentarians must arrive in Kuala Lumpur on October 17 to allow them to be quarantined before attending the next Dewan Rakyat meeting in November.

The measure was taken to reduce the spread of Covid-19, according to a letter from the Dewan Rakyat secretary Mizam Mydin Bacha Mydin to all parliamentarians from the state.

The letter dated October 9 was revealed by Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin on his Facebook.

The letter said all parliamentarians from Sabah must be in Kuala Lumpur throughout the sitting, which is scheduled to start on November 2 and during the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“I will abide by the regulation set up by the National Security Council and therefore I will be away from Kota Kinabalu for almost two months.

“We will fight this pandemic together, there shall be no double standards,” Chan said.

There are currently 24 parliamentarians from Sabah. Previously there were 25, however, Batu Sapi MP Liew Vui Keong recently died from lung cancer. – October 10, 2020.

In the letter, Nizam told Sabah MPs they will have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 screening at the airport as required by health authorities now.

They will be issued with a two-weeks home surveillance order either at their own residence in Kuala Lumpur or a government-approved hotel.

He said a second test must be conducted on the 13th day before they will be approved for release by November 1, one day before the sitting.

Nizam said MPs who return to Sabah and come back to Kuala Lumpur during breaks in the daily sitting will have to go through the process again. – October 10, 2020.
