Covid-19 infections remain high with 489 new cases

A total of 489 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, with most of them detected in Sabah, Kedah and Selangor. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, October 7, 2020.

MALAYSIA recorded 489 Covid-19 cases today, with most of them coming from Sabah, Kedah and Selangor, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham.

No deaths were reported today but the number of patients in intensive care units has increased to 40, with 13 requiring breathing support.

Sabah once again had the highest number of new cases with 282, followed by Kedah (153) and Selangor (20).

The severity of the situation in Sabah and Selangor was highlighted with four areas – Sandakan, Papar, Tuaran and Klang – put under targeted conditional movement-control order (CMCO) from midnight October 9.

Of the new cases reported today, 487 are local transmissions.

This puts the number of cumulative cases at 13,993.

Active cases are now at 3,351 while the death toll remains 141. – October 7, 2020.
