ONE of the four deaths from Covid-19 reported today was that of a one-year-old child, the youngest to die of the coronavirus in Malaysia, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The girl, a Malaysian citizen, is case number 12,432 and died at 4.25pm yesterday, the same day her Covid-19 test revealed a positive result.
She was brought in for treatment at the Semporna Hospital’s emergency department on October 1, where her condition deteriorated rapidly and she required respiratory aid.
The three other deaths in the last 24 hours as of noon today were of two patients aged 60 and one 85-year-old. All were Malaysians.
The two 60 year-olds were male, one in Sandakan and the other in Semporna.
The Sandakan patient tested positive on September 26 and died on October 4, while the Semporna patient tested positive on September 30 and died on October 4.
The 85-year-old, meanwhile, died at the Penang Hospital on October 5 within an hour after being brought in unconscious at 7am. He also suffered from high blood pressure and had mental health issues.
His Covid-19 test was done posthumously with a positive result.
The four deaths today put the national death toll at 141, while 691 new infections were reported today, bringing the country’s cumulative number of cases to 13,504. – October 6, 2020.
