293 new Covid-19 cases, mostly local

MALAYSIA’S Covid-19 cases continue to rise with 293 new infections reported in the past 24 hours – the bulk of cases coming from Sabah and Kedah.

Sabah recorded 126 new cases while Kedah reported 113. 

The two states have been recording the highest number of daily cases in recent days.

Another state with a high number of new cases is Selangor with 31. Johor today reported eight new cases.

Thirty of today’s infections were from those who had travelled to Sabah recently, while 112 cases from Kedah were from the Tembok cluster, which involves the Alor Setar prison and staff quarters.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 292 of the reported cases were local transmissions. 

The total number of cases is now 12,381. 

There were 67 recoveries, bringing the total number of patients recovered to 10,283. 

Active cases stand at 1,961. 

No deaths were reported, keeping the toll at 137. 

There are 28 patients in intensive care units, with four needing breathing support. – October 4, 2020.
