MALAYSIA continued to see a record Covid-19 spike, with 317 cases in the past 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
There was also a fatality reported, bringing the death toll to 137.
Today’s figures are a major increase from the 287 reported yesterday.
Noor Hisham said all the 317 new cases were local transmissions, and brings the total number of cases to 12,088.
The highest number of cases were from Sabah (155), followed by Kedah (102).
There were also 32 cases in Selangor, with Terengganu also seeing a hike with nine cases.
Thirty-seven of the cases today were those who had travelled to Sabah recently.
There were also 121 recoveries, bringing the total to 10,216.
There are 1,735 active cases in the country.
A total of 29 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with four requiring breathing assistance.
The death today involved a 57-year-old Malaysian man from Sabah. He had a history of diabetes, blood pressure and dyslipidemia.
Noor Hisham said the man started coughing and feeling feverish on September 10, and was admitted to the Tawau Hospital on September 24 after suffering from breathing difficulties.
He had tested positive for Covid-19 on September 28, and died yesterday. – October 3, 2020.
