THE Health Ministry is still waiting for the actual cause of death of a male teacher from a school in Semporna, Sabah, Health Director General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He said this in response to a report by The Star that the teacher’s death today was due to Covid-19, and as a result, all schools in the state may be closed for two weeks.
“We need confirmation before we can say the teacher died of Covid-19.
“However, the school is taking proactive measures by closing for two weeks as well as disinfecting the building,” he said at a press conference today.
Dr. Noor Hisham only mentioned the school concerned, while the news report said the closure may affected all schools in Sabah.
The Star had an unnamed source from the Education Ministry about this possibility.
It also quoted Sabah Education Department (JPN) director Dr Mistrine Radin, who said a male teacher had died due to the virus.
Mistrine said all 50 schools in the Semporna district had been closed due to the Enhanced Movement-Control Order (EMCO) in effect now until October 12.
Sabah continued to record high positive Covid-19 cases, with 113 new cases today.
Four districts in the state are currently Covid-19 red zones, namely Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna. – October 2, 2020.
