Record-breaking 287 new Covid-19 cases today

Malaysia's total number of Covid-19 cases hits 11, 771, as 287 new infections are reported today.

A RECORD number of 287 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in Malaysia in the past 24 hours, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

This brings the total number of accumulated cases to 11,771.

Kedah had the highest number of cases with 129, followed by Sabah with 113.

This was followed by Selangor with 31 cases.

Today’s hike comes on the heels of 260 new infections yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said that all the 287 cases reported today were local transmissions, with no import cases.

Of these, 20 were those who had returned from Sabah.

“The number of infections among those who had travelled to Sabah from September 20 is 139,” he said during his press conference in Putrajaya.

He also said that there were 81 recoveries reported as of noon today, bringing the overall total of recoveries to 10,095.

Twenty-two patients are still being treated in intensive care units, with four needing breathing assistance. No new deaths have been reported, with the overall death toll remaining at 136. – October 2, 2020.
