THE Health Ministry has detected a new cluster of three infections, known as Tembok in Kedah, following the death of the index patient.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case was a 46-year-old man with a history of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart and kidney problems.

Noor Hisham said the patient was brought to the emergency department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah on September 28 after experiencing breathing difficulties and was pronounced dead at 6.15pm on the same day.

He said the ministry found two more cases through the screening of the deceased’s close contacts.

“The two positive cases are Malaysian citizens. They were admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement.

He said the source of infection is still under investigation.
