24 active clusters now, says health D-G

THERE are currently 24 active Covid-19 clusters in the country, Health Director- General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

Cumulatively, Malaysia has had 123 clusters since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak and 99 are now no longer active.

“In total, we recorded 123 clusters but 99 of the clusters are no longer active and we have ended our observation of them.

“Currently, there are 24 active clusters,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya.

Of the 24, four are new, which he announced today.

They are the Jalan Bomba cluster and Jalan Utara cluster, both in Sandakan, Sabah, the PK Benteng cluster in Selangor, and the Bakawali cluster in Johor.

Sabah continued to record a high number of positive cases, with 73 out of today’s 101 fresh cases from the state.

The Bangau-Bangau cluster had highest number of new cases, with 51 infections reported. 

Selangor has also recorded 14 cases, nine of which were individuals who had travelled to Sabah. 

There were two cases in Johor and one each from Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Perak, Malacca, Kelantan, Penang, Putrajaya and Perlis.

A total of 101 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country today, of which 17 people had travelled Sabah recently.

Local transmissions again made up the bulk of today’s new infections at 97. Overall, the national tally of cumulative cases is 11,135.

Of the 101 cases, four are imported, involving a Malaysian, two Myanmar nationals, a Saudi national and a Nigerian. – September 29, 2020.
