OF the four new Covid-19 clusters announced today, two are in Sandakan, Sabah, while the other two are in Selangor and Johor, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

“The clusters in Sabah are Jalan Bomba and Jalan Utara.

“The Jalan Bomba cluster involves a Malaysian who travelled to Semporna on September 20. He developed flu, fever and cough and tested positive yesterday (September 28),” he told a press conference in Putrajaya.

The man was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan and from close contact screening, two more individuals were found positive yesterday.

The second cluster, called Jalan Utara, is also in Sandakan and involves two health officers who tested positive after a screening at a training institute there.

“They were asymptomatic and have been referred to the Duchess of Kent Hospital yesterday. We are still tracing close contacts and the source of the infection,” Noor Hisham said.

The Bakawali cluster in Johor, meanwhile, involves a husband and wife who had been to Semporna on September 13.

Both developed fever, cough and flu on September 24 and sought medical treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital.

“They tested positive on September 26 and were referred to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital.”

The couple have also infected two others, putting the number of cases in the Bakawali cluster at four.

The cluster in Selangor, dubbed Benteng PK, has nine positive cases, the latest being a police officer found positive after screenings on a group of undocumented migrants in the state.

“As of today, nine people in the Benteng PK cluster are infected. Eight are undocumented migrants and one is a police officer. They have been admitted to the Sg Buloh Hospital.” – September 29, 2020.
