DEVELOPMENT in Sabah will be much easier now that Perikatan Nasional has taken over the state from Warisan, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The PN federal government will be more involved in Sabah’s development following its win in state elections last Saturday, he added.

“We already have won in Sabah. It makes things easier to deal with.

“It’s not that being in the opposition made things difficult, but it is now easier to sit together and plan things,” Muhyiddin said in a townhall session for the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 this afternoon at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The Bersatu president added the PN government wanted to focus on Sabah and Sarawak, so much so that a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Maximus Johnity Ongkili, had been appointed to look after affairs for both states.

Maximus is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president.

Muhyiddin added there were several issues in the two Bornean states that needed to be addressed, besides issues under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in which Sabah and Sarawak are demanding the return of more state rights.

“We have a long list of things to be done.”

He mentioned infrastructure issues in Sabah that needed improvement, including Internet accessibility, adding that he met with Sabah student Veveonah Mosibin, whose YouTube video about connectivity issues dominated headlines last month.

“I also had dinner with Veveonah and her family to understand what they were going through. There are a lot of things to be improved,” Muhyiddin said.

Veveonah, a 18-year-old Universiti Malaysia Sabah student, had posted a video of herself climbing a tree in order to obtain internet connection so that she could take an examination online. – September 29, 2020.
