THE enhanced movement control order (EMCO) enforced at Tawau Prison and its quarters in Taman Ehsan, Sabah, has been extended a further 14 days, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
After taking into consideration the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the areas, he said the government agreed to extend the EMCO to October 9.
“During this EMCO period, the areas reported new cases in the double figures daily and, as of September 23, a total of 107 new cases were recorded.
“Taking into account the risk of the virus spreading, the government has agreed to extend the EMCO in these areas to another 14 days from September 26 until October 9,” the defence minister said in a statement.
The EMCO in Tawau Prison and the prison quarters started on September 11 and was set to end last Friday.
During the administrative EMCO, individuals were not allowed to leave the area for work, and visitors from outside were not allowed to enter for work.
As of yesterday, Tawau has recorded 332 active cases and has been marked as a red zone by the Health Ministry. – September 27, 2020.
