THERE are still concerns of possible Covid-19 infections in one area of Kota Setar, despite the administrative enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) placed on the district ending today.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the area – Rumah Pangsa Tongkang Yard (Seberang Perak) – will be under targeted EMCO until October 7.

As many as 94 residents in the area have undergone the Covid-19 screening, out of which nine have been found positive.

The nine cases involve five households.

“The Health Ministry conducted an assessment and concluded the area is still high-risk,” he said in a statement today.

SK Sg Korok Lama will also be closed from tomorrow until October 9 following the order.

Ismail Sabri said this extension is being carried out for the purpose of enabling a second screening by health authorities.

Enforcement authorities will also continue observing the movement of residents there, he said.

The Kota Setar administrative EMCO involved over 28 areas in Kedah, with a total of 366,787 residents.

As of yesterday, the country recorded 71 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with Sabah recording the highest number of new infections with 63 cases.

This brings the total number of infections in the country so far to 10,576 cases.

The death toll stands at 133. – September 25, 2020.
