THE similarity of Perikatan Nasional’s logo to the Barisan Nasional one caused confusion among Sabah voters, and it was what why Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) was formed, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“It is because of the similar looking logo, therefore, a decision was made to have another coalition of new parties in Sabah known as GRS.

“The GRS coalition may not be marketable yet (to voters). However, such a situation has created confusion among voters,” the Umno president was quoted as saying by news portal The Vibes.

GRS is made up of parties in Sabah Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah.

They will face Warisan Plus, led by caretaker chief minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, which comprises Warisan and Pakatan Harapan.

Zahid said Umno and BN were the underdogs in the Sabah elections as they were not part of the state goverment.

“However, we’re grateful to our friends in Sabah, especially PBRS (Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah) and MCA who are still with us.

“Looking at the government in Sabah today, they (Warisan) are the current establishment while we are seen as the ‘second layer’. We have to acknowledge that there is a ‘third force’ that will contest in all 73 seats, he said.

The “third force” referred to Parti Cinta Sabah, led by former foreign minister Anifah Aman, and Sabah Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, headed by Jeffrey Kitingan.

The elections tomorrow will see 447 candidates contest 73 seat. – September 25, 2020.
