Sabah records highest number of new Covid-19 cases again

MALAYSIA recorded 71 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with Sabah recording the highest number of new infections with 63 cases, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

This brings the total number of infections in the country so far to 10,576 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said 64 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,666.

Of the 71 cases reported in the past 24 hours, two were imported cases involving a Singaporean and an Indonesian.

The remaining 69 were local transmissions – 43 Malaysians and 26 non-Malaysians. Sabah accounted for 63 cases while Kedah and Selangor recorded four and two cases respectively.

“In Sabah, 47 positive cases came from the Bangau-Bangau cluster, 10 from the Laut cluster, one from Lahad Datu Benteng cluster, one from pre-procedure screening at the Semporna Hospital and one asymptomatic case at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“The four cases in Kedah are from the Sungai cluster and two from Selangor are asymptomatic patients who went to Semporna, Sabah,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said currently there are six patients being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) with two on respiratory assistance.

The death toll stands at 133. – September 24, 2020.
