THE Perikatan Nasional government still stands, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He noted Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of having the numbers to form the government but said until the opposition leader backs up the claim with proof, he remains prime minister.

“Till proven otherwise, the Perikatan Nasional government still stands firmly and I am the legitimate prime minister,” Muhyiddin said in a statement today.

The Bersatu president added Anwar should first prove his claim before declaring that the PN government has collapsed.

“This allegation should be proved through processes and methods determined by the federal constitution. Without that process, Anwar’s statement is a mere claim,” Muhyiddin said.

He urged Malaysians to be calm during this time of political upheaval which he said would be amicably resolved.

“This issue will be handled well according to the laws and the Federal Constitution,” Muhyiddin said.

Anwar at noon declared that the PN government had fallen as he now had the majority in parliament.

However, he did not disclose how many MPs he had on his side when pressed by reporters at the press conference in Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The PKR president said he had spoken on the phone last night with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah after the king was admitted to the National Heart Institute.

The Port Dickson MP said he would only reveal the number after he had informed the king.

Shortly after Anwar’s announcement, DAP and Amanah issued statements pledging their support for him.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said that party members are free to support Anwar.

DAP has 42 lawmakers, Amanah, 11, and PKR, 38. Umno has 41. – September 23, 2020.

  • Great to know you still have the support to remain PM. I just wonder how do you sleep at night after what you have done to the nation.
