UMNO Supreme Council member Mohd Razlan Rafii has tested positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Sipitang, Sabah, said media reports.

Malaysiakini reported that Razlan has been admitted to the Kota Kinabalu Hospital and is waiting for the results of a second swab test to confirm the findings of the first swab test.

“The first test was an RTK (rapid test kit), this second test is an RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction). The results should be out today or tomorrow,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.

Meanwhile, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin said last night that it was a suspected case that has yet to be confirmed.

Bung added that the Umno leader has been placed under quarantine for 14 days.

SuaraTV said in a report, quoting sources, that all of Razlan’s close contacts have been told to go for Covid-19 screening.

Senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, on the other hand, said that he did not receive an official report on the matter.

However, he said if this is true, then the patient will have to be quarantined in Sabah and fully recover before returning to the peninsula.

“This is the reason why I always remind all to adhere to the government’s standard operating procedure,” the report quoted him as saying.

Ismail added that a cabinet committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss safety and security issues in the Sabah elections. – September 21, 2020.
