Saturday night sees spike in MCO breaches, arrests

POLICE detained 522 people yesterday for breaching the recovery movement control order.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 180 people were remanded while 342 received a compound.

The offences were mostly related to prohibited nightclub activities (363 cases), followed by failure to observe social distancing (81), not wearing face mask (36), breaching a stay-home order in a red zone (17), failure to log customers (12), leaving a red zone area without permission (1) and doing business without a licence (5).

Seven migrant workers without valid permits were nabbed, he said.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail said the authorities arrested 180 undocumented migrants and detained five human traffickers and a boat skipper.

“The authorities also seized five land vehicles and organised 89 road blocks.”

Ninety-three people were apprehended 93 the day before for RMCO related offences. – September 20, 2020.
