Business as usual at HKL after storeroom fire, says hospital director

A FIRE that broke out in the storeroom in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has been extinguished and the medical facility is operating as usual, said hospital director Dr Heric Corray.

Dr Corray, in a statement, said patients and staff were allowed to return to their respective wards at 12.48am today after the blaze was put out.

“Once declared safe, patients were transferred back to their respective wards and the move was completed about 2am,” he said.

The Fire and Rescue Department has launched an investigation into the cause of the 11pm fire.

No casualties were reported.

He said the hospital control room and call centre were informed of an alarm triggered by the smoke detector and had immediately called the fire and rescue department at 11.07pm.

Patients in several wards were evacuated to safety while the fire was successfully put out by hospital staff using a fire extinguisher and water hose before the arrival of the firefighters. – Bernama, September 20, 2020.
