PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today reminded Muslims in the country to think twice before taking any extreme measures to defend their religion.
He said the government would not tolerate extremist practices that could threaten the peace.
“We must remember that Malaysia is a multiracial country that always emphasises moderation and harmony among different races and religious groups.
“Thus, the government will not compromise on any form of extremist practices that could threaten the country’s racial harmony, public order and national security,” he said in his speech at a meeting organised by Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim).
Muhyiddin said stern action will be taken against those who advocated extremism.
“Firm action based on the law has been taken against those who spread extremist practices and ideologies regardless of religion,” he added.
Muhyiddin said that he had met leaders of Islamic groups who had raised concerns over the challenges facing Muslims.
“Some of these leaders met with me and expressed concerns about the great challenges that Muslims are facing in Malaysia and around the world.
“Among them are new developments in thinking and way of life that are seen as threatening the faith and morals of Muslims.
“This includes the ideological influence of Western liberalism and secularism which does not see religion as something important to human life,” he said.
Minister in charge of religious affairs in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and Yadim president Nasrudin Hassan were present at today’s event. β September 19, 2020.
