AIRLINES have been urged to lower their ticket prices during the September 26-27 weekend to help outstation Sabahans return to vote in the state polls.

PKR advisory board chairman Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said 5,966 voters have so far expressed interest in returning to vote, but said they could not afford to buy flight tickets.

The almost 6,000 voters have registered with non-partisan civil society group “Pulang Mengundi Sabah”, which is helping Sabahans return to vote on September 26.

Currently, the group has only collected about RM35,350 in donations to help the voters registered with them, said Wan Azizah, enough to aid only 101 Sabahans.

“There are people who want to come back and vote but in this situation where we have Covid-19 and the economic downturn, they find it financially hard to do so on their own,” Wan Azizah told a press conference in Kota Kinabalu today.

“So, we urge airlines to give discounts to Sabahans to help them return to perform their patriotic duty. We hope airlines can consider this request.

“We also appealing for public donations to help bring these Sabahans home to vote.”

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah also listed several policies that had been implemented by the 22-month Pakatan Harapan federal administration for Sabah.

These programmes and facilities had been executed by her as deputy prime minister and under her women and community development portfolio.

The programmes include RM10 million to set up 65 nurseries in federal government offices across Sabah and RM165 million to the Sabah Welfare Department for cash transfers to 40,743 recipients. – September 18, 2020.
