1 death, 95 new Covid-19 cases


Malaysians account for 68 of the new locally transmitted cases reported today. – September 18, 2020.

MALAYSIA reported one death and 95 new Covid-19 infections today, with 90 of the fresh infections in Sabah, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The latest fatality of a 50-year-old Filipino woman is the first death since September 1, and takes the cumulative death toll from the virus in the country to 129.

The new infections also raised the number of active cases to 754, and the national tally of cases to 10,147.

The last time Malaysia reported such a high number of active infections was on June 14, when there were 973 cases.

Of the 95 new cases, 91 are local transmissions.

Sabah contributed 90 of the local transmissions, including 76 cases from the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster, while the Pulau and Selamat clusters reported four and three cases, respectively.

Malaysians accounted for 68 of the new locally transmitted cases.

On the 129th death, Noor Hisham said it occurred in Sabah, where the woman had sought treatment at a healthcare facility for a cough and breathing difficulties.

“She was referred to Semporna Hospital for further treatment but did not go as she faced some difficulties getting there. She was found in an unconscious state and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on September 14.

“Covid-19 test results showed she was positive,” he said.

Meanwhile, 14 patients were discharged from the hospital in the past 24 hours after recovering from the coronavirus.

With this, the total number of recoveries tand at 9, 246.

Eleven patients are currently in intensive care, with two intubated. – September 18, 2020.
